Bethesda Mission is seeking a Shelter Supervisor for our Women’s Shelter in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, supporting women and children experiencing homelessness. This role helps maintain a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment while serving in a mission-driven Christian ministry.
Provide compassionate supervision and leadership while ensuring the safety, security, and daily operations of the shelter.

Summary of Position
Bethesda Mission is seeking a Shelter Supervisor responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and orderly operation of the Women’s Shelter during assigned shifts.
This position, also known internally as House Supervisor, helps maintain a peaceful and supportive environment for guests, staff, and visitors while reflecting the love of Christ through calm, compassionate, and consistent service.
The Shelter Supervisor works day, evening, or overnight shifts every other weekend and may provide additional coverage for staff absences due to illness or vacation when available.
Experience in shelters, residential programs, social services, or community outreach is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
Maintain a safe and secure environment for all guests staying at the Women’s Shelter.
Monitor building safety systems and ensure alarms and security procedures are functioning properly.
Conduct regular rounds throughout the facility to ensure guests remain in appropriate areas and shelter guidelines are followed.
Respond promptly to emergency situations using sound judgment and calm leadership.
Complete incident reports documenting safety concerns or significant events.
Help maintain a clean and organized shelter environment for guests, staff, and visitors.
Assist with organizing and storing donations, supplies, and other materials as needed.
Communicate with the incoming and outgoing Shelter Supervisor during shift transitions to ensure continuity of operations.
Report shift activities through daily staff communication.
Transport guests to appointments or other necessary locations as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support shelter operations and ministry.

Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.
Stable and responsible work history.
A genuine heart for serving individuals experiencing homelessness and life challenges.
Ability and willingness to lead or participate in prayer, devotionals, and ministry with guests and staff.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in stressful or crises.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Ability to maintain composure while working with individuals who may be experiencing emotional or physical distress.
Must successfully pass required background and child abuse clearance checks.
Experience working in shelters, residential programs, social services, or community support environments is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires regular movement throughout the shelter facility, including walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs.
The Shelter Supervisor interacts regularly with guests who may be experiencing emotional or physical distress and must maintain compassion, patience, and professionalism.
